ABBOTT’S XMAS GIFT FOR PENSIONERS – PENSION CUTS

Tony
Abbott has delivered a horror Christmas message to Australian
pensioners by pressing ahead with legislation to cut the pension on the
last sitting day of parliament.
2014 will end with Tony Abbott trying to legislate another of his broken promises.
Before the election, Tony Abbott said there would be no changes to pensions.
He lied.
Lies and broken promises have become the hallmark of this Government in 2014.
Labor will stand up for pensioners and vote against Tony Abbott’s cruel cuts.
This legislation will see the indexation of the pension cut and the qualifying age for the Age Pension increased to 70.
The
last thing Australian pensioners need this Christmas is for Tony Abbott
to legislate cuts to the indexation of the Age Pension.
According
to the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) pensioners will be
around $80 a week worse off within ten years as a result of the Abbott
Government’s changes to pension indexation.
These
cruel cuts will hit Age Pensioners and those receiving the Disability
Support Pension, Carer Payment, Veterans’ pensions and a number of other
pension style payments.
Tony
Abbott continues to lie about these cuts, but his own Budget papers
clearly show a $450 million cut to pensions in the next four years
alone.
This amounts to a $23 billion cut to the cost of the Age Pension by 2023, according to the Parliamentary Budget Office.
The best thing Tony Abbott can do for Australian pensioners this Christmas is drop his cruel cuts to the pension.
